D uring the past 30 years, the GVMH Foundation has grown up. Established Feb. 14, 1989, the nonprofit took baby steps early on. Donations reached $25,000 in 1993, and the foundation’s board created a donor wall. A decade later, the foundation saw a huge growth spurt. More than $350,000 in gifts and pledges poured in to build a hangar in Clinton for LifeFlight Eagle. Over the years, awareness of the foundation has increased steadily, says Deanna Hendrich, the Making big dreams come true foundation’s director since 2012. Dozens of events have raised money for patients with heart disease, cancer, diabetes and lymphedema. Donors have rallied to support patients of all ages, from babies to older adults. “Individuals and businesses step up when asked, and they step up generously,” Hendrich says. The organization’s scope has also grown. Most recently, Twin Lakes Hospice became a service of GVMH. That allows another option for donors who want to help. “We care for patients from first breaths to Gifts to the GVMH Foundation are tax-deductible. We receive support from our own staff and doctors, plus patients, their families and the communities we serve.” The foundation board and hospital board have started meeting as a group “to dream big dreams,” Hendrich says. “We’re at a point where we can set and reach goals that give our rural communities unprecedented access to healthcare,” she says. “That makes life better for all of us.” GVMH Foundation 4 HEALTH SCENE HEALTH SCENE ® To learn more about services offered at Golden Valley Memorial Healthcare, visit our website at gvmh.org .
