Twin Lakes Hospice has provided compassionate care for more than 30 years. Golden Valley Memorial Healthcare opened its doors 46 years ago and has remained an important anchor in the community ever since. As the two join forces, more people will receive Craig Thompson, CEO Better together Twin Lakes Hospice now part of GVMH care when needed, from first breaths to final moments. That’s how Tony Curtis, Director of Twin Lakes Hospice, views the merger of his organization with Golden Valley Memorial Healthcare (GVMH) in July. “This gives us an opportunity to provide a higher level of service to patients and families,” Curtis says. Hospice is end-of-life care. It includes treatment for pain and other symptoms when someone has a terminal illness.The care usually takes place in a patient’s home and is provided by a team that includes doctors, nurses, social workers and chaplains. “We treat patients’ symptoms, but we also give emotional and spiritual support,” Curtis says. Hospice also helps family members cope during this difficult time. And Medicare and some insurance plans cover hospice services. —Continued on page 2
